With the ever-growing popularity of technology with young people, it can be overwhelming to understand all of the current apps that young children are using. Instagram is for sharing visual content with added comments, which might use hashtags (#). A user can ‘like’ someone else’s picture or video by clicking on the ‘heart’ icon, and can add their own comments about it.
Snapchat allows pictures to be sent between friends, that disappear after a set amount of time. 'Snaps' can be added to your 'My Story' and friends can see locations of others via the app.
 
 
ooVoo is a video chat app. It lets you make video calls, voice calls and send texts to friends and family. To register with the site, you can set up an account with ooVoo or sign up using an existing Facebook account.
Kik Messenger is an online messaging app that can be set up without any verification. Users can create groups and send each other unlimited text, image, videos and sketch (drawing) messages. The app also has an inbuilt web browser where users can search the internet, Youtube and other sites.
Musical.ly is a social media app which allows for video creation, messaging and live broadcasting.
 
YouTube's revenue comes from advertising and so, predominantly, it is free to use. There is no cost to register or to upload videos and the majority of the videos are free to view.
 
WhatsApp's minimum age of use is 16 years old. By using WhatsApp, a user agrees to provide certain personal information such as their mobile phone number, billing and mobile device information. Group chats are becoming popular, where numbers, messages and media can be shared.
Yellow allows users to 'search' for people in their area by using a device's geo-location. Users are encouraged to share their Snapchat usernames and become 'friends' on the app.
 
Periscope is a live video streaming app where users can stream videos live, or watch other live videos from around the globe.
 
 
 
 
Facebook is an online social media site to connect with other friends. Messages, photos, videos and content can be shared online.
