ASSESSMENT
Linchfield Academy was formed in September 2020, due to Covid there have been no nationally published assessments since this date.
We will publish our data on this page when National Assessments resume.
EYFS
EYFS data is teacher assessed in all 17 areas of the curriculum.
Year 1 Phonics
The phonics screening check is a short, light touch assessment to confirm whether individual children have learnt phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. The checks consist of 40 words and non-words that your child will be asked to read one-to-one with a teacher. Any children who do not pass the phonics screening check in Year 1 will be given extra support by the school to improve their reading skills. They will then be able to retake the check in Year 2.
SATs
SATs or Standard Assessment Tests are used to evaluate your child’s educational progress at the end of Year 2 and Year 6. They make comparisons between children against the average attainment expectations for their respective age group.
KS1
Key Stage 1 SATs take place at around the end of May for Year 2 children. They are tested in maths and English (reading and spelling, punctuation and grammar). Writing is teacher assessed.Teachers generally try to keep the testing procedure informal – the papers are not strictly timed, and are usually taken in a normal classroom situation to keep the pressure off children. On 14 September 2017 it was confirmed that the KS1 SATs will be made non-statutory (so schools will be able to choose whether to adminster them or not) from 2023. Until then children will continue to be assessed in May during Year 2.
KS2
Key Stage 2 SATs are a more formal process than key Stage 1 and take place in the May of year 6. The tests cover English Reading, Grammar Punctuation and Spelling (SPAG) and Maths. The papers are sent away to be marked externally with results being available before your child leaves primary school in July. Writing is teacher assessed.
