Pupils from Linchfield Community Primary School in Deeping St James have been learning about World War 1 and World War 2 this week.
Ahead of Armistice/Remembrance Day on 11th of November, the school arranged for a variety of original artefacts to be displayed in classrooms including medals, Princess Mary tins, helmets, rifle stock, badges and many more for children to inspect.
Year 6 Teacher, Martyn Wilkins, dressing as a British Officer to add to the experience:
“For our WW1 and WW2 topic this term, we wanted our pupils to learn why we remember, and consider how their generation will shape their own Remembrance. So that the children could really understand the era we went above and beyond to try to create an experience for them and set them some hands-on tasks.
These included cooking and tasting WW1 food, taking part in a trench battle complete with war sounds being played in the background. The children carried their rucksacks whilst keeping their heads down to avoid bombs and bullets.
The pupils were then asked to write a diary based on their experience.”
Pupil, Ryan said:
"I really enjoyed crawling through the trench and looking at the old war items. The day has been lots of fun."
